What pushes the water out of the tank?

Compressed air, not the membrane.

Water fills one side of a bladder.

Compressing air on the other.

That air delivers when the tap opens.

The membrane plays no part in it.

So what decides how the tap behaves?

The air charge, not the volume.

A correctly charged tank delivers well.

A poorly charged one dribbles.

However large it is.

Volume is not the governing figure.

My tap runs briefly then slows - why?

Almost always the tank pre-charge.

It has drifted over the years.

So the tank cannot push its contents out.

Check it with the tank empty.

It is a five-minute job.

When is a booster pump needed?

On a low-pressure mains supply.

Output falls with feed pressure.

So does rejection quality.

And production slows as well.

All three improve together with a booster.

And a permeate pump?

Uses the reject stream's energy.

To push product water into the tank.

Which raises recovery.

And lowers back-pressure on the membrane.

Without using any electricity.

Is that better than a booster?

It solves a different problem.

A booster raises feed pressure.

A permeate pump improves recovery.

On a good supply, the permeate pump.

On a poor one, the booster first.

Does the tank need cleaning?

Periodically, and it is often skipped.

Product water carries no disinfectant.

So there is no residual protecting it.

Sanitise the tank when changing filters.

Rather than never.
