How is a pull-through plug removed?
By pulling a tail through the bore from the far side.
The plug's body deforms and follows through.
It is not pulled back out the way it went in.
That turns removal into a single pull.
It works from whichever side is accessible.
Conventional plugs have to be gripped and extracted the way they entered.
Why does that matter?
Because one side of a hole is frequently much easier to reach than the other.
A conventional plug in a deep or awkward bore is hard to extract.
Tools used to dig one out can damage the protected surface.
A pull-through removes that risk.
It also removes the need to reach the original side.
On complex components that access difference is the whole reason for the product.
Is it faster in production?
Noticeably, on parts with many masked holes.
Removing masking is unproductive time.
Prising each plug out is slower than pulling each through.
Across a shift that difference is significant.
It also requires less skill and less care.
Damage during removal falls at the same time.
Does the tail help with inspection?
Yes - a protruding tail is obvious at inspection.
A plug left in place gets noticed before the part ships.
That matters because a plug in a threaded hole is a real defect.
It reaches the customer if it is not caught.
Bright colours reinforce the same point.
Visibility is a genuine part of what these plugs offer.
Do they work in blind holes?
No - there is nowhere for the plug to be pulled to.
They suit through-holes by definition.
A conventional tapered plug with a tab is correct for blind holes.
Identifying which holes are which comes before ordering.
Otherwise the wrong plugs arrive for half the part.
Most components need a combination of both types.
Do they still seal properly?
They have to, and that is the tension in the design.
The plug must seal the bore against the process.
A design that pulls through too easily may not seal reliably.
Plug and hole diameter still need matching properly.
Relying on the tail rather than the fit is a mistake.
Trialling on a sample part confirms both sealing and removal.
Can they be re-used?
Generally not - the body deforms during removal.
That is how it passes through the bore.
Deformation is usually permanent rather than elastic.
Re-using a distorted plug compromises the seal.
That is the trade against reusable tapered plugs.
Where re-use economics matter more than removal speed, tapered plugs are the better choice.
