Why does a frame need kits at all?
Because four things vary per job.
The wall it braces back to.
The finished floor level.
The acoustic requirement.
And the wall finish.
Why not build those into the frame?
It would be four different products.
None of the four is known in advance.
So the frame stays standard.
And the kits adapt it on site.
That is cheaper and more flexible.
Are they genuinely optional?
Mostly not, despite the name.
The fixing set holds the system up.
The height kit makes access heights reachable.
The insulation set stops noise transfer.
Each addresses a requirement or a failure.
When do they have to be ordered?
With the frame, not after it.
Nearly all of them are first fix.
They go in before the boarding.
Noticing one missing at fit-out.
Means opening the wall again.
Which cannot be added later at all?
Sound insulation, most clearly.
It sits between frame and structure.
So the frame would have to come out.
Height extensions are similar.
Once the floor is poured they are fixed.
Are the kits interchangeable between makers?
Rarely, and it is worth checking.
They are made for a specific range.
And often for a frame generation.
An older frame may not take a current kit.
Identify the frame before ordering.
How do I identify an existing frame?
From a label inside the prewall.
Usually reachable through the flush plate.
Maker and model are stated on it.
Measuring the frame rarely identifies it.
Look before ordering a part for it.
