Does being self-contained make it self-supporting?
No, and that is a dangerous assumption.
The anchors still need something solid.

A module without them fails the same way.

Is servicing easier than a built-in prewall?
Somewhat, and for a structural reason.
A module is fixed to a wall, not built into one.
So in the worst case it can be moved.
A tiled prewall cannot be.
Routine access is the same either way.
What does the top surface give you?
A shelf where a wall gave nothing.
At a convenient height beside the pan.
In a small room that is real gain.
It is why some are chosen deliberately.
Even where a prewall was possible.
Can one serve two WCs?
Back-to-back arrangements exist.
Sharing a module between two pans.
Common in cloakrooms and commercial work.
The module is deeper to suit.
Check the depth against both rooms.
