Frequently Asked Questions
What is the economic argument for a bed?
Media is bought separately from hardware.
Granules by weight cost far less per unit of capacity.
The hardware stays across many changes.
The saving compounds with every refill.
At scale and over years it dominates.
Small installations rarely justify it.
What does extra depth achieve?
Contact time, which decides removal.
Beds go far deeper than panels or cassettes.
Difficult gases need that dwell time.
So do demanding removal efficiencies.
Depth cannot be bought in a shallow format.
It is the technical reason to choose a bed.
What is given up?
Convenience, and a substantial amount of labour.
Changing media is a messy job.
Trays are emptied and refilled by hand.
Adsorbent dust spreads readily.
It takes far longer than swapping a cassette.
Plan the work, the equipment and the handling.
Why does packing matter so much?
Uneven packing creates a low-resistance path.
Air channels through it largely untreated.
Removal falls with no obvious symptom.
Settling over time causes the same effect.
Fill evenly and check for settlement.
Top up rather than letting voids form.
What else causes bypass?
Gaps around the trays themselves.
Air will take any route around the media.
Bypass around a bed defeats the whole system.
Seals between trays and frame matter.
Inspect them at every media change.
Replace perished seals rather than reusing.
How is remaining capacity assessed?
By sampling the media itself.
Samples are taken at depth through the bed.
Testing shows remaining adsorption capacity.
The inlet face saturates first.
That profile predicts the change point.
Pressure drop tells you nothing here.
What about disposal?
It follows what has been adsorbed.
Spent media holds the captured contaminant.
Some duties produce regulated waste.
Volume is considerable on a large bed.
Arrange the route before the first change.
Storage before collection needs space.
