Why does a curved front suit a small bathroom?
Because the corner it replaces is the part that gets in the way. A square enclosure presents a hard right angle into the room at exactly the height people walk past.
Rounding that corner gives back a slice of usable floor and, more importantly, removes an edge to catch a hip or a towel rail on. In a room where the walking route passes the shower, that is the difference between comfortable and awkward.
It also lets the doors travel on the curve rather than swinging outward, so nothing sweeps into the space in front of it.
What tray does a quadrant need?
A matching quadrant tray of the same radius. The enclosure sits on the upstand of the tray and the curve has to be the same one, or the seal cannot follow the glass.
Radii are not universal between makers, so a quadrant enclosure and a quadrant tray from different ranges may share a nominal size and still not match on the curve.
Buying tray and enclosure together as a matched pair avoids the problem entirely, and on a replacement it is worth measuring the existing radius before ordering rather than assuming a standard.
How much of the curve is actually the opening?
Usually the middle portion, with a fixed panel each side. The doors slide or fold along the radius and the fixed returns carry the frame into the two walls.
That means the clear entry is meaningfully narrower than the overall size on the box. An 900 mm quadrant does not give a 900 mm opening; the usable gap is closer to half.
Where entry width matters — for a larger user, or for helping someone in — judge on the opening dimension, not the tray size.
Does a quadrant work in an alcove?
No, and this is the most common ordering mistake. A quadrant is designed for a corner: it needs two walls meeting at a right angle, and it returns into both.
An alcove has three walls, and the enclosure there is a single screen or door across the opening, not a curved corner unit.
Where only one wall is available, the equivalent is a walk-in panel with a tray, not a quadrant. Checking which walls exist before choosing a shape saves a return.
How is the curved glass sealed against the walls?
Through wall profiles that take up the discrepancy between the perfect curve of the glass and the real geometry of the room. Those profiles usually allow a few millimetres of adjustment on each side.
That tolerance is what makes a quadrant fittable at all, because two walls meeting at exactly ninety degrees is rare in practice.
Where the corner is significantly out of square, the adjustment can be used up, and the fix is a range with a deeper profile rather than forcing the one supplied.
